One Little Word 2016 | February Prompt

I am loving having a word to focus on this year, and can already notice a subtle difference in my day-to-day life just by having the constant reminder to choose. I am especially loving this months prompt of 'practicing'. It is such a great reminder to think about your word daily. I found that in January, I was very focused on my word for the first week or two, because I was actively working on my album and my prompts for the month. But once I'd finished them and put my album on the shelf, I wasn't thinking about my word as much.

For this month, my 'one thing' that I chose to do daily was drink a green smoothie. This falls in line with my wanting to choose to eat more healthy and whole foods this year (and going forward, period). This prompt actually worked out perfectly, because at the end of January, before I even knew about this prompt, I found an Instagram account (@simplegreensmoothies) with a ton of green smoothie recipes, and started trying some then. So when February rolled around and the prompt was to pick something to do daily related to your word, I had the perfect thing!

And, to date, I have made and drank a green smoothie every day! Not exactly an earth-shattering accomplishment, but you gotta start somewhere. And I have definitely noticed some positive effects already - less feeling tired and sluggish all the time and more energy, less eating junk, and it's pushing me to eat better all around.

And even though I am focusing on a smoothie daily, that practice is also helping to just keep my word at the forefront of my mind in other aspects as well. Choosing to have more patience, choosing to cut out negativity, choosing to nurture relationships... All in all, February is going well from a OLW perspective.

Here is a look at my first page for the February prompt:

I used a picture of my smoothie prep and scaled down the opacity a bit in Photoshop, then used the "practice february" brush from this months classroom downloads. The Take Action card was a 4x6 card in in the Spark Story Kit that I cut down (so perfect for OLW!), and the goal tracker was a part of this months classroom download as well. I am using a little star from the Magic Story Stamp to mark off my daily accomplishment. I considered using gold ink, to give myself a 'gold star', but I got rid of my gold ink pad as it was drying out, so black it is!

I haven't completed the other half of the prompt yet. I am going to leave that until the end of the month, then write down some reflections then. So, check back for that in a few weeks!

Do you have a One Little Word this year? What are you practicing?

  3. Great pages, and I love that your practice is something that's not tied to a moment, you can fit it in whenever during your day. My practice is to get up right away when my alarm clock goes off, and well... I get one chance each day to get it right, and when I miss it, I can't make up for it during the day. So far I'm at 14/15 so I'm not complaining, but this is something your post made me realize. A lot of words to say: such a great practice!

    1. Wow, 14/15 is awesome! Yes, I never thought about it that way, and you are so right! Sometimes I will even have my smoothie as an after-dinner snack, just to make sure I get it in there. It's nice to have all day, and probably what has made me go 15/15 so far. Thanks for the comment, Stephanie!
